Here, we set off on a journey through three centuries of porcelain history and witness tradition and modernity coming face to face and getting on splendidly together. You will actually get to feel the material at various stages, begin to understand the physical processes involved and gain an impression of how Meissen porcelain ends up being just what Augustus the Strong had so passionately hoped for: a radiantly white material that can be colour-decorated in almost infinite ways, yielding a product so versatile it’s bound to give pleasure to each and everyone in some form or other. We will be trying out ways of working with the material in a relaxing atmosphere and will be demonstrating just how complex the overall procedure is. And we’ll be rounding the event off by testing the porcelain’s intended fitness for both culinary and aesthetic function.
